Starting Programming (Intro)
I’ve been asked a couple of times lately on the best programming language for a young person to start learning to code.
To be honest, up until last week I would have said Microsoft Small Basic, but then I got chatting to a guy called Paul Clarke on Twitter (@YOUSRC) who runs YOUSRC; an online resource for learning to program.
The site requires Java and an Internet connection. All development is done online via the browser. It teaches a programming language called ELC, which should look familiar to most seasoned programmers and is easy to follow for the beginner.
Kids can also run their code on their Android phones with no modification.
I think they are both great ways for youngsters to get into programming but YOUSRC may have the advantage simply because of the amount of examples that have been shared online.
